America’s power generation systems rely heavily upon coal and other fossil fuels. Politicians, business leaders, activists, journalists and citizens are increasingly attentive to the challenge of producing low-carbon or zero-carbon energy. EIRP’s advocates for innovation to make low-carbon energy, including fossil energy, less expensive. This can keep greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere while avoiding political battles that result from efforts to increase the cost of carbon-intensive energy sources.
EIRP’s has focused on developing policy options to facilitate productive use of carbon dioxide, such as enhanced oil recovery. These technologies could allow America to recover staggering amounts of hydrocarbons while helping to achieve radical reductions greenhouse gas emissions from electric power generation. EIRP is advocating policy proposals designed to unleash private sector efforts to commercialize carbon capture and utilization.
